A Review of Kim Yong-taek's Poetry Collection 『The Green Light of That Day』
Hello? This is Ddungttang's family. Today I'd like to write an honest review of poet Kim Yong-taek's 『The Green Light of That Day』. It was a collection I loved from the cover. Looking at the cover, where a green forest spreads like watercolor, I felt like I was already taking a walk somewhere deep in the woods before even opening the book. The line "There's no point in a thrill, damn it!" made me laugh out loud

The line "There's no point in a thrill, damn it!" made me laugh out loud.
It made me feel closer to poet Kim Yong-taek, realizing he writes lines like that too.
It was also a moment that made me a little embarrassed that I'd been wandering around alone searching for the point of life.

I thought that ordinary moments like cooking for myself and doing the dishes become this warm and lovely once they pass through the poet's hands.
The line "a spoon and chopsticks, one chopstick rest" made me unexpectedly tear up.

The poem that struck me most was, without a doubt, 「The Sunny Side of the Mountain Bend」.
"Back then / I should have run / whatever the words / still / back then / I should have said them"
The poet must have written it out of regret over words or actions he couldn't bring himself to voice at some moment in life...
But for me, all I could think about while reading this passage was the stock market that's been on fire lately. 😅
'I should have bought back then'
'I should have bought when they said to buy'
'I should have bought when they said to buy'
'I should have bought when they said to buy'
'I should have bought when they said to buy'
'I should have bought when they said to buy'
'I should have bought when they said to buy'
'I should have bought when they said to buy'
'I should have bought when they said to buy'
'I should have bought when they said to buy'
'I should have bought when they said to buy'
In the end I never bought...

'the baby I used to be long ago'
Doesn't that phrase hit you somewhere?
We forget and live on... but we were all babies once.
The greatest charm of this collection is that it isn't difficult.
It captures modest everyday life and scenes of nature through Kim Yong-taek's warm gaze, so even people who don't know much about poetry can read it comfortably.
That was my review of 『The Green Light of That Day』.
