A Gimhae fixture since 1983, Namgwang Sikdang
Namgwang Sikdang is a true long-established restaurant that opened way back in 1983.
To have passed 40 years this year means it has held this spot since before I was even born!
Isn't a place like this what you'd call a true local restaurant?
The moment I opened the door and stepped in, I felt like I'd boarded a time machine.
It wasn't the "retro vibe" people talk about these days — it was an atmosphere with the years captured in it exactly as they were.
There's no glittering interior, but that rough, cozy look actually gave me confidence: "Ah, we're going to eat something really good here."
🥢 A Place Where Even the Side Dishes Show Extra Care
As I sat down, the side dishes started coming out one by one.
I could tell from the first bite. "Ah, these were made by hand!"
These days many restaurants use factory-made side dishes, but here you could clearly tell each one was made by hand.
The greens seasoned without being overdone and the clean-tasting side dishes raised my expectations to the max before the main dish even arrived.
It was that feeling of "I can trust this place" just from the side dishes!
🔥 The Star Finally Appears — Bubbling Nakgopsae!
And at last, the house signature, nakgopsae, made its entrance!
A fantastic combination of octopus + giblets + shrimp.
Watching it bubble up in the brass pot made my mouth water on its own. 🤤
The moment I took one spoonful to taste it...
"Ah, now I get why this was on TV!" The springy shrimp, the chewy giblets, and the tender octopus came together with the spicy seasoning — perfect for mixing with rice.
It was the kind of taste that moves your spoon on its own.

🤔 An Honest Taste Assessment — Tasty, but a Little Sweet?
Overall it was really delicious!
Fresh ingredients, a well-drawn broth, and seasoning that shows 40 years of know-how...
It really is true that old restaurants are different.
That said! To my personal taste, it was a bit sweet.
I was expecting a spicy nakgopsae, but the sweetness was more pronounced than I thought.
If you go to Gimhae, be sure to stop by once!
There's clearly a reason it has kept its place for so many years.
I'll come back next time with another delicious restaurant exploration!
