🦆💌 『The Duck Postman』, a Gift From Author Ko Su-jin - A Heartwarming Time-Travel Story

Hello? This is the Ddungddang family.

Today I want to show off a truly special and thank-you-worthy book gift that came to our family.

It's a young adult novel called 『The Duck Postman』, sent to us directly by author Ko Su-jin.

With a solid historical backdrop plus heart-tugging family love, I read it so absorbed that I lost track of time.

A special signature full of the author’s affection

The reason this book shines even more is the handwritten signature from author Ko Su-jin that you see the moment you turn the page.

The author wrote out the names of our Ddungttang and Ddanji one by one, personally.

And the signature is so pretty that I was more excited than the kids, staring at it and marveling for quite a while.

It felt like a wonderful gift the kids will keep for life, and it really warmed my heart.

A mysterious adventure that begins with regret and sorrow

The protagonist of this book is a teenage boy named 'Dongju'.

One day, a sudden and heartbreaking parting comes to Dongju.

Right after a big argument with his dad, his dad passes away in an unexpected accident.

Having sent his dad off without even time to make up, Dongju falls into a deep swamp of regret and sorrow.

Then, while sorting through his father's belongings, Dongju discovers a very old 'duck earthenware vessel', and inside it he finds a mysterious rainbow-colored feather.

Led by the feather's astonishing power, Dongju travels far back in time, to the era of 'Geumgwan Gaya'.

(Apparently the author majored in history. TMI?)

My share of embarrassment, a book exchange I can’t laugh about

Actually, after receiving such a wonderful book from the author, I shyly gave her a gift in return: my own book, 『I'm a Rookie Employee Spy』.

But after coming home and feeling the deep narrative and heart-tugging emotion 『The Duck Postman』 holds, giving her my book suddenly became so embarrassing. ㅠㅠ

(Author, you'll still read mine and enjoy it, right...? Haha!)

A warm novel for both kids and adults

『The Duck Postman』 deals with the somewhat heavy themes of parting and loss,

but it beautifully sublimates them into a message of hope and courage through the warm medium of a duck postman.

History is naturally woven into an exciting adventure story, so it's really good for kids to read enjoyably.

It reminds you again of how precious the family beside you is, and there were many moments when even I, an adult, felt my nose tingle.

It might be even better if a dad and son read it together, like me...

If you want to give the gift of fun, emotion, and historical imagination all at once, I strongly recommend author Ko Su-jin's 『The Duck Postman』!

Reading it together with your kids and taking time to talk about feelings you never managed to share with each other sounds like a good idea too.
