Daegaya Museum: Discover a Kingdom Through Royal Tomb Treasures
Daegaya Museum brings together three exhibitions exploring the kingdom and Goryeong’s local heritage.

A museum devoted to Daegaya
Daegaya Museum is a specialist museum dedicated to the history of Daegaya and the Goryeong area. It comprises the Daegaya Royal Tomb Exhibition Hall and Daegaya History Museum, at the foot of the Jisan-dong Ancient Tombs, as well as the Ureuk Museum in Jeongjeonggol, where Ureuk is said to have created the gayageum.
Across its exhibitions, the museum presents more than 3,000 artifacts excavated in Goryeong. The collection offers visitors a broad view of the region’s history and culture through objects from tombs, temples, and local heritage collections.
Tomb finds and historic objects
Among the displays are a gilt-bronze crown and other ornaments from the Jisan-dong Ancient Tombs, along with pottery such as long-necked jars and cylindrical vessel stands. The collection also includes weapons and equipment, including a ring-pommel sword decorated with a phoenix motif, armor, bits, and saddles.
Other notable objects include the bronze bell and stone pagoda from Banyongsa Temple, as well as royal documents held by a local clan house. Together, these objects show the range of material associated with Daegaya and the wider Goryeong area.
Nearby places to explore
Nearby heritage sites include the Jisan-dong Ancient Tombs, Jusanseong Fortress, Goryeong Hyanggyo, and the flagpole supports at Jisan-dong. The Goari Mural Tomb Model Hall recreates the mural tomb and features immersive media art, while Daegaya Living Village offers a look at the daily lives of people in Daegaya.
